La Cabro D'Or - Gold or just Silver?

La Cabro D'Or is a 5 star hotel with a Michelin star restaurant that is set in the heart of Les Alpilles mountains, Provence. It is one of Les Maisons de Baumanière's three gourmet restaurants that proudly bear the stamp of Relais & Châteaux.
Relais & Châteaux is a worldwide network of independent hotels and restaurants. Established in France over 50 years ago, it has become a renowned reference of excellence with several of the biggest names in contemporary global cuisine grouped under their label.

This restaurant is one of my father's favourites of anywhere in the world - and he's had the pleasure of eating at several fantastic restaurants! Therefore, when the suggestion recently arose of course I jumped at the opportunity to eat there again. I had been taken there by my parents years before to celebrate the results of my A-levels and the passage of time had only served to heighten my anticipation.
Perhaps it was just that, that my high expectations lead me to feel a sense of anti-climax, but I have to say that I was slightly disappointed.

Don't get me wrong, the food is very nice, and the service and setting are fantastic, but personally I'm not sure that the food at La Cabro D'Or lives up to the accolades that it possesses. Their website boasts the "unpretentious, informal luxury of this Provencal house" but can it's rustic appeal justify the Haute Cuisine prices that it charges?  38euros is a lot of money for a starter by anyone's standards and in my opinion La Cabro D'Or is verging on being a case of 'style over substance'.
The presentation of the food was fabulous and it included elements of the fashionable Molecular Gastronomy, but I found the taste a bit underwhelming and at the end of the day shouldn't it be about the flavours?
